Before and after

Asking for headcount in a 1:1 follow-up

Cmd/Ctrl Shift P

Before

so we are pretty underwater right now, everyone has been doing overtime for like 6 weeks and we slipped 2 deadlines this month, i really think we need another person, can we maybe talk about it in our next 1:1?

After

I want to make the case for one more hire. The team has run on overtime for six weeks and we still slipped two deadlines this month — that's the cost of staying understaffed. Can we take 15 minutes of our next 1:1 to walk through it?

Pushing back on a deadline

Cmd/Ctrl Shift P

Before

i dont think we can make the friday deadline tbh, theres just too much left and i dont want to skip QA, sorry about this, maybe wednesday next week?

After

Friday isn't realistic without cutting QA, which I don't recommend. With full testing we deliver Wednesday. If Friday is fixed, tell me what to drop and I'll make it work — otherwise I'll plan for Wednesday.

Third reminder on an overdue invoice

Cmd/Ctrl Shift P

Before

hi, just following up again on invoice 2291 which is 45 days overdue now, please let us know when payment will be made, we may have to pause the account soon which we really dont want to do, thanks

After

Invoice #2291 is now 45 days past due. Could you confirm a payment date by Friday? If something on your side is blocking it, tell me and we'll work it out — otherwise we'll have to pause the account at month-end, which neither of us wants.

How do I make an email more persuasive without sounding pushy?

Persuasion in email is mostly structure, not pressure. Three moves do the work: put the ask in the first two sentences instead of the last, attach one concrete reason — a number, a date, a consequence — and end with a single specific next step rather than 'let me know your thoughts'. Most bland emails already contain the right material; it is just buried under hedges and apologies. That is why Rewrait rewrites your draft instead of generating a new one: your facts get reorganized into that structure. The tone dial is the variants. 'More direct' strips hedging for asks where you hold the cards; 'Warmer' keeps the firmness but softens delivery for senior or sensitive audiences. Compare them side by side and send the one that fits the relationship — pushy is what happens when you guess wrong, and you do not have to guess.

Can I dictate a rough email and have Rewrait make it persuasive?

Yes, and for many people it is the faster path. Hedging is largely a typing habit: when you talk through an ask out loud, you naturally say the real reasons. Dictate the rambling version — 'we need the budget because the contractor leaves in March and rehiring costs more' — in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, or the automatic multilingual mode, then run the persuasive-email shortcut on the transcript. The rewrite keeps your facts and tightens the structure around them. This is also the strongest workflow if English is your second language: speak in the language you think fastest in, and get a polished English email in place. Dictation is included on paid plans — Pro at $12/mo billed annually — and in the 14-day free Team trial every new account starts with.

Does this work in Gmail and Outlook?

Yes — and in anything else you send from. Rewrait is a native Mac and Windows app, so the hotkey works in Gmail and Outlook on the web, the Outlook desktop app, Apple Mail, and the compose boxes inside tools like your CRM or project tracker. There is no add-in to install per mail client and no extension that breaks on the next update. The flow stays identical everywhere: write the email as it comes out of your head, select it, press Cmd+Shift+P (Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows), run the shortcut, and compare variants next to your original. Nothing is replaced until you choose, so the worst case is keeping exactly what you wrote. Most people's bar for 'good enough to send' rises fast once the before and after sit side by side.

Is there a free way to try this?

Yes, two of them. The Free plan costs $0 forever and includes 30 rewrites per month at up to 1,000 characters each — a normal work email fits comfortably, so that is roughly an email a day with no card and no trial clock. Separately, every new account starts with a 14-day free trial of the Team plan, no card required, which unlocks everything: unlimited rewrites, 10,000-character selections for the long ones, premium models, and dictation. When the trial ends you drop back to Free rather than losing access. If the persuasive-email shortcut earns its keep, Pro is $12/mo billed annually ($144/yr) or $15 month to month. One honest note: Rewrait sharpens emails that contain a real ask and real reasons — it reorganizes and tightens, it does not invent your case for you.
